Applying For A Discover Card Scholarship For Education

Many companies and organizations offer award scholarships to students. Some of the major credit card companies have started to offer such award. One of the many companies is the Discover Card Scholarship. Also known as the Tribute Award Scholarship, this award is given to high school seniors who intend to continue on their academic career.
If you are interested in this reward, you can apply as soon as junior year of high school. In order to be eligible for this tribute, the junior has to be enrolled in an accredited public or private high school within the United States. What is interesting is that the minimum grade point average requirement is 2.75 grade point average. This is lower than a number of other funding gifts from other companies. Remember, that the GPA is calculated through tenth grade as people are applying junior year.
Additionally the eligible applicant is required to be able to show leadership in achievements or involvement in local community activities. Most high schools have opportunities to participate in community service tasks. These duties can vary from volunteering at the public library, special town clean up days, local funding drives, working with the elderly at nursing homes, Habitat for Humanity, or serving food at a homeless shelter. If you wish to be a part of one of these projects, check with your school's counselor to found out if you can get community service credits. If you enjoy working with kids you can get involved in an athletic coaching program or big brother group in your town. Take some initiative and if you see a population in need find out if they need a
volunteer.
One other important aspect for the credit card application is that the student is required to show in what way they have conquered a significant obstacle or life challenge. This could mean a great many things so this definition is a bit ambiguous. You can demonstrate the way you prevailed even in financial hardships or how you persevered even with the pressures of a physical ailment or disability. If there are bereavement issues, don't hesitate to document the way you've adjusted. It will be up to those who are evaluating the applicants to decide on the winners.
This tribute offers up to 300 state awards of $2,500 each. There are also larger awards of twenty five thousand dollars for ten individuals nationally. The deadline to apply to this tribute is in February of each year. If you are awarded this tribute, you can apply the gift funds for any post-high school education, training or certificate program. This applies to junior and four year colleges as well as trade schools or other technical types of schools.
