Many students hear through various sources that there are plenty of scholarships out there, somewhere, with their name practically written on them, just waiting. In reality, it's not quite that easy. You must first find these scholarships. Below are some tips on how to begin your search.
College financial aid officers do a great job of awarding you as much gift aid as they are possibly able; based on your merit and need. They may not know about many scholarships you can find on your own and apply for directly; however. This is because they simply do not have time to search for new scholarships for each individual student.
Your high school counselor may be able help you find scholarship information. You can also contact the financial aid offices at the colleges you are interested in as well as browsing scholarship directories that you can find at libraries and bookstores.
